HOW DID YOU MEET ?

We met on the second day of Orientation Week at our alma mater, Western University. A mutual friend pulled us both into a jam session in the lounge of our residence hall - Kyle was planning a bass guitar and I had my banjo, and we both thought the other looked pretty cool. We ended up chatting and I showed him how to play "Heart and Soul" on the piano. After that we became fast friends - staying up until dawn some nights just talking. About a month and a half later we finally decided we should probably go on a date, and the rest is history!

HOW DID YOU LIVE YOUR WEDDING DAY?

Because of COVID-19 we made the last-minute decision to elope as restrictions in and around Montreal were becoming much more strict at the start of the second wave. While it was heartbreaking to not have many of our loved ones with us, it did allow us to really focus on each other during the day and our timeline was much more relaxed because our wedding would be so low-key. We checked into a fancy hotel in the morning, got ready together (though I kicked Kyle out just before I put on my dress!), had a beautiful photoshoot in Downtown Montreal with our photographer Ariann, then headed to the venue. Something that was really important to us, though, was having our friends and family watch the ceremony even though they couldn't be there physically with us. Pléa was incredible in helping us set up a Zoom livestream so everyone could watch from home, and we had so many people tell us afterwards how happy they were to be able to watch the ceremony live. Our officiant, who is also a good friend, led a toast for everyone at home at the end of the ceremony, and on the Zoom recording you can see everyone raise a glass to us. That moment was so special and made us so glad we chose to livestream the ceremony.

KYLE, WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE MOMENT WITH ROBYN?

IIt's so hard to choose, but my favourite moment with Robyn was the moment our officiant pronounced us married. Getting married during COVID-19 you have to be so flexible and your day goes through so many changes, and for a while we were worried that it wouldn't happen at all. So the moment when we were actually named husband and wife was this moment of elation for so many reasons - I was finally married to my best friend after 8 years of being partners in everything, and we finally made it to the finish-line of COVID-19 wedding planning. We were married, and no matter what happened in the world around us after that moment, nothing could change that.

ROBYN, WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE MOMENT WITH KYLE?

I would also say that it's really hard to choose! I have to pick two - our first kiss as a married couple felt so incredible because as Kyle said, we finally made it, and here I was married to my person. After all the worry we experienced leading up to the event, the whole day sort of felt like a dream, but that moment in particular was the moment I realized it was real. Kyle was really my husband, we didn't have to wait anymore, and no matter what life threw at us after this we'd face it as married partners. My other favourite moment has to be one that Pléa captured so perfectly - we were sitting on the little footbridge at the venue, drinking champagne and signing along to "Deep Love" by Lady Lamb, our favourite musician. That moment just exemplified everything I feel about Kyle and our relationship - the ease of being together, laughing together, singing along to everything.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE US FOR YOUR DAY?

Authentik Weddings and Pléa came highly recommended by our wedding coordinator (Nadine of Le Coeur Bohème), and we could not have been happier with our wedding videos. We knew that because so many of our loved ones couldn't be there, we wanted our day captured so that we could share it with them virtually and watch the videos in-person once it's safe to do so. Pléa was so incredibly kind and understanding with us leading up to the event, especially as we changed our plan what felt like 20 times because of COVID-19 restrictions. He was always patient and willing to go with whatever our next idea was, even helping us plan for a livestream about a week before the event when we decided to elope. Our videos turned out perfectly and really captured the essence of our day - there were lots of tears watching them back! Our entire team of vendors were incredible and we felt so glad that we were surrounded (distantly, of course!) by kind and warm people during our elopement - they all made the day seamless from start to finish.
